The Maryland Corps Advisory Board (Board) was established to guide, support, and provide strategic direction to the Maryland Corps/Service Year Option programs (Programs). The Board is tasked with ensuring that the program meets its goals of fostering civic engagement, promoting service opportunities for young adults, and contributing to community development across the state.

Board Responsibilities:

The Maryland Corps Advisory Board is responsible for:

  • Advising the Maryland Department of Service and Civic Innovation (DSCI) on program goals, structure, and outreach.

  • Assisting in the development of policies and best practices that support youth engagement and service-based learning.

  • Offering recommendations on funding strategies, program partnerships, and long-term sustainability.

  • Reviewing and evaluating the performance and impact of the Programs to ensure continuous improvement and effectiveness.

  • Collaborating with educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, and government entities to enhance program outcomes.

Board Composition:

The Maryland Corps Advisory Board is comprised of a diverse group of individuals representing various sectors. Board members are appointed by the Governor, President of the Senate, and Speaker of the House and serve staggered terms. Members include:

  • Experts in youth service, education, workforce development, and community engagement.

  • Representatives from state and local government.

  • Leaders​ from nonprofit organizations, philanthropic institutions, and private sector partners.

  • Individuals with lived experience in service programs, such as alumni of the Programs or similar initiatives.
